In this episode of Design Life, Mike talks about his speaking engagement at the Construct 2019 conference where he presented to over 30 people about burnout in the construction and design industry. After spending the previous month reviewing TED talks, tips, and advice for speakers, Mike focused his presentation material on graphical cues that would trigger different topics and points to discuss.

Mike goes into detail about what it was like to stand in front of other professionals in varying stages of their life and careers. He felt as if his other endeavors such as blogging, podcasting, and hosting in-person seminars in the past helped him feel comfortable on stage and get rid of any nervousness he might’ve encountered. Mike shares his experiences with people who approached him after his presentation to thank him and ask additional questions.

Tim asks Mike about how the speaking engagement has influenced his personal projects. Mike talks about shifting his writing process for his blog, Evolving Architect, to focusing only on ideas that matter and are personally fulfilling.
